Applied Behaviour Analysis (A.B.A)
A.B.A. is the scientific study of behaviour, its antecedents and its consequences. Almost all of the children The ABC Clinic work with have some degree of language delay. Children with language delays often develop inappropriate behaviours, which gain them access to the events, objects or responses they enjoy. Sometimes the reasons behind these behaviours can be incredibly difficult to identify.

But a behaviour always happens for a reason. By understanding how behaviours are created and maintained we are better able to understand inappropriate behaviours, and shape them into more appropiate ones.

Language is shaped and developed through the same principles of reinforcement as behaviour. The ABC Clinic use the Assessment of Basic Language and learning Systems (ABLLS) based on the work of B.F. Skinners Behavioural Classification of Language.

The ABC Clinic specialise in the design of behaviour modification programmes for children with autism (and other related conditions), behavioural problems, and language and learning delays. The ABC Clinic was formed in 2004 by Sean Rhodes, an Applied Behavioural Analysis consultant based in Bristol. Sean is a qualified Associate Behaviour Analyst with published research on the outcomes of ABA. He has 10 years experience of working with children with autism, behavioural problems, and language and learning delays; designing intervention programmes; training teams of tutors; working within mainstream and special education schools; and liasing with educational authorities.
